1. (usually circumstances) a fact or condition connected with or relevant to an event or action: 出来事や行為に結びついた、関連した事実や状況

｟かたく｠ ; 〖時に～s〗 (どうすることもできない)事態, 境遇; 運命

e.g. we wanted to marry but circumstances didn't permit.: 私達は結婚したかったが、状況はそれを許さなかった。

an event or fact that causes or helps to cause something to happen, typically something undesirable: 何かが起こるの引き起こす、引き起こすのを助ける出来事や事実。概して望まれないもの。

〖通例～s〗 (事態･行動に影響する)事情, 状況, 情勢 ((1)しばしばthe ～s of .... (2)「社会的環境」はenvironment)

e.g. he was found dead but there were no suspicious circumstances: 彼は遺体で発見されたが、そこには不審な状況はなかった。

be found dead: 遺体で発見される

e.g. they were thrown together by circumstance.: 彼らは偶然出会った。

2. one's state of financial or material welfare: 人の経済的、物質的な豊かさの状態

have every right to: ～するのに十分な権利がある、～するのは当然である

never, whatever the situation is or might be: 決して、どんな状況があって、あろうとも

どんな［いかなる］こと［事情］があっても～ない、どんな［いかなる］状態［状況・場合］でも［においても］～しない、決して［間違っても］～しない、～するのに不適である

e.g. under no circumstances may the child be identified.: 何があってもその子供は特定されないかもしれない。
