類義 take care ofとlook after, care for

take care of: 患者･老人･子供などの弱者や客･動物の世話などを始め, 物の手入れや維持管理･物事の処理を責任を持って引き受ける場合に用いる. 単なる責任ではなく愛情を暗示し, 〘英〙 より〘米〙 で好まれる

look after: 〘主に英〙 でtake care ofとほぼ同じ意味で用いるが, 短期間子供･親･夫･妻などの家族の面倒を見る場合, 利益･金銭の管理などに言及する際に特に好まれる

care for: 〘ややかたく〙 で広い意味での社会的弱者を世話･介護する総称的表現で好まれ, 長期･終日のものをさすことが多い.

｟ややかたく･主に書｠ A〈人･物など〉の面倒を見る, 世話をする (!進行形が可能)

e.g. She cares for elderly patients.

(友情に基づいて)A〈人〉のことが好きである［を思う］, 大事にしたいと思う (!進行形にしない)

e.g. I got the feeling he never really cared for me.

3. somewhat formal to like or enjoy (something) —often used in negative statements

｟かたく｠ 〖通例否定文･疑問文で〗A〈物･事･人〉が好みである, 好きである (!likeより控えめな表現)

e.g. I don't care for jelly beans.

e.g. I don't care for your tone of voice.

4. somewhat formal to want (something)

｟かたい話｠ 〖通例wouldを伴う疑問文･否定文で〗A〈物･事〉が欲しい, Aを望む (!likeより控えめな表現)
