premisesは財産として一緒に考えられた土地と建物のことです。この用法は財産の所有者が彼らの権利証書からpremisesという文字を見つけることから生じました。元来、この言葉は正しくは「aforementioned(前記: この文書が扱っているもの; ラテン語のprae-misssus(placed before: 前に置く)から);」を意味していたものです。

なので、自社運用を意味するオンプレミスは英語に即したオンプレミシズ(On-Premises)じゃないと本当はおかしい。
